—And, they want to spend an additional $1,317,600 for “enhancements” although the  LW Golf Course “cost center” shows a 2012 NET LOSS OF $274,900.00 in 2012.

There are 5614 living units in LW and approximately 8500 residents.   As seen in the current Golf & Greens Committee minutes, the year to date number of golf course members has dwindled to 111 – less than 2% of the senior citizen population.   Yet, the community of residents  are required  to pay for this continually failed  under performing bottomless money pit.

The Leisure World Golf Course operation has LOST $1,254,600.00 since 2008.  That is: One Million, Two Hundred Fifty Four Thousand Six Hundred Dollars of resident money from 2008-2012.

The Facilities Enhancement Plan (FEP) “Additional Financial Information” http://lwmc.com/docs/Projects/FEP_07-31-2013.pdf document (page 63):

As requested by the Golf & Greens Committee, the Leisure World Board of Directors has permitted over 30  beautiful old trees  to be cut down on the golf course.  Their “enhancement proposal” was adopted as part of the current Facilities Enhancement Plan.

page. 56 :  “11. Selectively remove trees and thin several heavily forested areas to improve air circulation and sunlight exposure for growing turf-grass.”

On page 2 of the Golf & Greens Committee meeting minutes, Golf Club Manager Scott Wagner states that there had been a community discussion of going pesticide free.  Mr. Wagner, who is NOT an environmental specialist, wildlife biologist and/or natural turf care expert,  stated that it would not be a good idea to go pesticide free on the Golf Course:

Fungicide  $26,500

The Leisure World of Maryland Board of Directors will be voting on a motion to allow the Golf & Greens Committee to “purchase a trained dog” to CHASE GEESE off the Leisure World golf course.
1. The amount they will be asking to be paid for the dog/kennel/maintenance and vetting will be $28,000.
2. The dog will be kept in a kennel on the grounds at night with NO ONE to take care of him/her –
3.This senior citizen community has 8500+ residents – the golf course has 140 paid members (less than 2% of the population) – It shows a loss of over $260, 0000 a year of resident funds.
PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH ANY AND ALL ANIMAL WELFARE GROUPS – IN ORDER TO GAIN THEIR ASSISTANCE IN DEFEATING ANY APPROVAL OF THIS CRUELTY – BOTH TO THE DOG AND THE GEESE.
